Therefore, it is always suggested to never share your password with anyone and also use security features such as Two-Step Verification or Account Key provided by Yahoo Mail. However, if you ever find that someone might be having access to your Yahoo Mail account, you can easily change the password for it by following the instructions provided below. The following steps will guide you to change the Yahoo password on the computer, iPhone, and Android.

Steps to Change Yahoo Mail Password on a Mobile App

On Android Phone

  1. On your Android phone, you will first need to launch the Yahoo Mail app.
  2. Once you get directed to your Yahoo Mail application, you will need to tap on the Menu icon (three horizontal bars).
  3. Next, you will need to select the Manage Accounts option from the drop-down menu that appears on your screen and then tap on the Account info option. You will be directed to the next screen.
  4. On the next screen, you will need to tap on the Security settings option located under the Account info.
  5. Then, you will need to enter your security code when prompted and tap on the Change password option.
  6. After that, you will need to select the “I would rather change my password” option. You will be prompted to enter a new password for your account. In the provided field, enter a strong password and tap on the Continue button.
  7. As you will click on the Continue button, the password for your Yahoo Mail account will be changed.

On Desktop Browser

Alternatively, you can also change the password of your Yahoo Mail account using a desktop browser. Here are the steps that you will need to follow.

Note: Make sure that you are using a supported and updated web browser to follow the instructions provided below.

  1. Open a web browser on your computer and sign into your Yahoo Mail account.
  1. Once you are logged into your Yahoo Mail account, you will need to click on the Settings option (gear icon) located on the upper-right corner of your page. This will open a drop-down menu on your screen. From the drop-down menu, you will need to click on the Account info option. You will be directed to the Account info page. NOTE: In case you don’t find the Account info option under the Settings section, you can click on your profile picture located near the top-right corner and select the Account info option from the drop-down that appears on your screen.
  2. Once you are on the Account info page, you will need to select the Account security option from the left-hand side panel. You will be directed to the Account security section of your Yahoo Mail account. NOTE: Sometimes, to get access to the Account security section, you might be prompted to enter your Yahoo Mail account password.
  3. Once you are in the Account security section, you will need to click on the Change password option. Doing so will prompt you to use the Account key feature to access your account instead of using a password. If you wish to use it, you can configure this feature by following the on-screen prompts. Otherwise, you will need to select the “I would rather change my password” option.
  4. Selecting the “I would rather change my password” option will direct you to the next screen where you will be prompted to enter a new password.
  5. In the provided field, enter a strong password for your Yahoo Mail account and click on the Continue button. The password for your Yahoo Mail account will be changed right away.

NOTE: When creating a strong password, make sure to use a combination of numbers, alphabets, and special characters.

On iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch

  1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, go to the application menu and tap on the Yahoo Mail app. This will open the Yahoo Mail app on your screen.
  2. Once the Yahoo Mail app gets opened on your screen, you will need to tap on the Menu icon (three horizontal bars). This will expand the menu on your screen.
  3. From the menu that appears on your screen, you will need to select the Manage Accounts option and then tap on the Account info option. You will be directed to the next screen.
  4. On the next screen, you will need to tap on the Security settings option located under the Account info.
  5. Then, enter your security code when prompted and tap on the Change password option.
  6. After that, you will need to select the “I would rather change my password” option. You will be prompted to enter a new password for your account. In the provided field, enter a strong password and tap on the Continue button. NOTE: Clicking on the Change password option may prompt you to use the Account key feature instead of using a password to secure your account. If you wish to use this feature, you can follow the on-screen prompts. However, if you wish to use password security only, you will need to select the “I would rather change my password” option.
  7. As you will click on the Continue button, the password for your Yahoo Mail account will be changed.

NOTE: Make sure to use a combination of alphabets, numbers, and special characters when creating a strong password.

So, this is how you can easily change the Yahoo Mail password using your desktop, iPhone, Android device. In addition to changing the password, if you also wish to use additional security for your account, you can enable the two-step verification feature. The Two-step verification feature secures your account by sending a security code on your registered phone number each time you access your Yahoo Mail account using a new device or web browser. To know how to enable this feature, follow these steps:

Steps to Enable Two-Step Verification Feature

  1. Open a supported web browser on your computer and sign in to your Yahoo Mail account.
  2. Once you are logged into your account, click on your Profile Picture/ Name located on the upper-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear on your screen.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select the Account info Doing so will direct you to the Account info section on the next page.
  4. In the Account info section, select the Account security option from the left-hand side panel. You will be taken to the Account security section of your Yahoo Mail account.

NOTE: Sometimes to get access to the Account security section, you may be asked to enter the password of your Yahoo Mail account.

  1. Once you are in the Account security section, you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to get to the Two-Step verification Here, you will be provided two ways to secure your account – Using the Security key or using a Phone number.
  2. While using the Security key option will allow you to access your account by tapping on your security key, using the Phone number option will let you access your account using the code sent to your phone. Depending on the option you select, follow the below-mentioned steps accordingly:

NOTE: You will need to connect the Security Key to your device before following these steps:

  • Start by clicking on the Learn more option located next to the Security key
  • Next, you will need to click on the Set up key
  • Then, click on the Continue button and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process of enabling Two-Step Verification with Security Key.

NOTE: The Security Key option is available as a Beta version only, you might experience a problem using it until the stable version gets added.

Selecting the Phone number Option

  • Click on the Slider button located next to the Phone number option in the Two-step verification You will be directed to the next screen.
  • On the next screen, enter the mobile number in the provided field and press the Send SMS or Call me You will receive a security code on your phone.
  • Enter the security code in the provided field and click on the Verify
  • You will see the “You’ve enabled two-step verification” message on the next screen. Here, you will need to click on the OK button to return to the Account security

NOTE: As some of the email apps do not support a two-step verification feature, you will need to generate an app password to be able to access your Yahoo Mail account on such apps. Below are the steps that you will need to follow to generate an app password for such types of applications:

  • On the Account security page, scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  • Next, you will need to click on the Generate app password
  • Next, select the email app from the “Select your app”
  • Then, click on the Generate button located next to it.
  • After that, copy the code and go to your Yahoo account on the email app.
  • Now as you will check for a new email, you will be prompted to update your password.

In the provided field, you will simply need to enter the code you copied and confirm it. You will then be able to access your Yahoo Mail account for the selected app.
